Rust on Chrome
Rusted Chrome Socket
I got this Snap-On Ford shock mount socket off eBay and as you can see, there was some considerable rust built up on the inside of the socket. I'm not sure why they decided to sell the socket because if it was for the rust, that definitely wasn't going to be a problem for me and if they knew about Rusteco, it wouldn't have been for them either. After dunking the socket over night, I pulled it out and used a soft nylon bristle bottle (or rifle) brush (the same kind used to clean oil galleys in engine blocks) to brush away the lifted rust crud from the socket's interior before washing it off in the sink. As you can see, it was quite effective removing the rust from the socket AND it didn't harm the chrome at all, if anything, it made it a little shinier (probably due to rubbing it afterwards with a cloth as the Gel is supposed to be effective as a metal polish (not tested in this article).
