Third Time's the Charm

I wish.

This is the third time the windshield in the Cobalt SS/SC has been replaced – this year. At this point I feel a bit like this is some sort of practical joke.

The first time I replaced the windshield, it was because I managed to get struck by a flying rock while coming home one morning after a long night of partying with friends.

It put a huge crack in the windshield.

Of course, it happened when I had no money and wasn't going to for months.

When I did finally scrape together enough money, Toni – the Cobalt's service writer – sent me to the glass shop she uses and they were fantastic.

Not long after that, I went for a drive to grab some dinner and an old Ford truck kicked a rock into the windshield. It didn't do much damage, but the damage was directly in the line of sight for my right eye and the windshield had to be replaced a second time.

All had been well for four months when I went on vacation and within 30 miles, it happened again.

So, for the third time, the glass shop did an excellent job replacing the windshield – at least this time, my insurance chipped in. The reason it wasn't covered the past two times was that the cost of the windshield was lower than my deductible. Since the windshield replacement was a part of the body repair for the damage sustained to the hood, it was partially covered – or not, depending on how you want to look at it.

Anyway, Phase 3 of the After Vacation Cobalt Thrash-Fest worked out and now I'm on to the body repair. At least the car's preparation for this trip isn't taking until the last minute like it did with the vacation.

Hopefully, this windshield manages to last longer than the last two.
